The death of Mr Elias Hull of this city (Mason City) occurred Wednesday evening, Sept 27, 1911. He was sitting in a large rocking chair reading to his wife when Mrs Hull noticed him stop reading and noticed that his head had dropped forward on his breast. Mrs Hull tried to rouse her husband thinking that he had fallen asleep, then she summond medical aid and the neighbors, but he did not regain consciousness and died peacefully in just a few minutes, from heart disease. Mr Hull had always been a vigorous man and his sudden passing was a severe shock to the family and the entire community.

Elias Hull became a member of the Christian church in 1875. The high esteem in which he weas held by his neighbors was shown by his being elected to several offices of trust in Salt Creek Township. He served several years respectively as school treasurer, town clerk, and commissioner.

Funeral services were held at the Mt Pleasant church, Saturday, Sept 30, 1911, at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Wlder F E Welton and Elder J M Haughey. The six sons acted as pall bearers, Mr P A Enlows and Mrs Anna Deitrich furnished the music. Interment was made in Big Grove Cemetery.

James Richard Hull, the son of Elias and Maria J Hull, was born on August 29, 1863 in Salt Creek township. He departed this life April 15, 1934 at the age of 71 years, seven months and 17 days. On August 18, 1886 he was united in marriage to Pheobe A Hill. To this union were born the following children, Mrs Grace G Arnold, Mrs Marie Smith, and Mrs Helen Ford, all of Mason City; Mrs Frances Arnold, Petersburg, and Roy E Hull of Palmyra, Ill. Beside these he leaves to mourn his loss his wife and the following brothers, Thomas F of Long Beach, Calif; Chas L, Fred B, Alonzo F, all of Mason City, and a number of nieces, nephews and grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Mr Hull has been a member of the Church of Christ over 50 years during which time he held the office of County Superintendent of Sunday Schools several years, and has been an elder in the church over 35 years. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and learned to love him as a friend and brother. For many years he was one of the energetic farmers of Salt Creek township. About 15 years ago he moved to Mason City, locating on a pleasant acre plot at the east end of Elm Street. Here he and Mrs Hull have resided since that time.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, April 17, 1934 at 2:30 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev L P Nebelung. The pallbearers were Messrs W P Allison, T D Taylor, John Lager, Frank Risiniger, Wm Lowe, and H L LeSourd. Those who carried the floral offerings were Mrs Mildred Martinie, Mildred Elmore, Margaret Elmore, Marjorie Huffman, Mrs L P Nebelung and Mrs J P Ridner sang the following "And He Walks with Me," "City Four-Square," "Nearer My God to Thee." Mrs Alfred LeSourd was the accompaniest.

Interment was made in the Mason City cemetery.

Out of town relatives who attended were Mr and Mrs Leon Ranolds, Providence, Rhode Island; Mr and Mrs Fred Lloyd, Davenport, Iowa (Mr Lloyd was an uncle of the deceased); Mr and Mrs Roy Hull and family, Palmyra, Ill; Mr and Mrs Otis Arnold and daughter, Petersburg, Ill; Mr and Mrs J V Smith and sons, of Mackinaw, Ill; Charles evers and daughter of Pekin, Ill; Mr and Mrs Earl VanLaningham of Greenview, Ill.

MRS PHOEBE ANN HULL

Mrs Phoebe Ann Hull who has been quite ill for some weeks, passed away at the Deaconess hospital, at Lincoln, Illinois on December 15, 1934. She was the widow of the late James Richard Hull and was held in high esteem by neighbors and many friends throughout the city and country. She was a consistent member of the First Christian church in Mason City.

Deceased was born in Mason County, May 6th, 1868, the daughter of John and Sarah Hill. She grew to womanhood in the Hull and Hill neighborhood, southwest of this city. On August 18, 1886 she was married to James Richard Hull. The husband preceded her in dath on April 15, 1934.

Surviving are the following sons and daughter: Mrs Grace Arnold, Mason City; Roy L Hull, Scottsville Ill; Mrs Marie Smith, Mrs Helen Ford of Mason City; and Mrs Frances Arnold, Petersburg; also by a brother, John Hill, of Mason City, and a sister, Mrs Julia Young, Mason City; and by ten grandchildren.

The funeral was held at the First Christian church in Mason City, on Monday, December 17, 1934 at 1 o'clock p.m., conducted by the former pastor, Rev L P Nebelung. The pallbearers were J F Rissinger, William Wilkinson, William Lowe, W F Allison, John Lager, and T D Taylor. Those who carried flowers were Mrs Paul Martinie, Mrs Herman Plank and Mrs Jerry Rabbe.

Mrs L P Nebelung and Mrs J F Ridner, accompanied by Mrs Lydia LaFollette, sang "In the Garden," The City Four-Square," and "Some Day We'll Understand."

Interment was made in the Mason City Cemetery.
